Feta is probably the most popular cheese of Greece, and among the countless recipes it offers, this baked Feta recipe -called “bougiourdi” in Greek, is a quick, simple and very delicious starter. As usual, you can fill you kitchen with amazing Mediterranean smell and taste with almost no effort!

Ingredients per person:

125-150g feta cheese

8 cherry tomatoes

1 small red onion or 1/2 large

1/2 green bell pepper

A handful of black olives, preferably of the Kalamata variety

Extra virgin olive oil, oregano

Preheat the oven to 180 degrees. Cut the cherry tomatoes into halves, julienne the onion and the green pepper into thin slices. Transfer all to an individual baking tray, also adding some black olives. Season with extra virgin olive oil. Finally, place a whole piece of feta cheese on the vegetables, season with oregano and a little more extra virgin olive oil. Bake for about half an hour, let cool for a few minutes and ideally serve the tray directly, without transferring to a plate.

Tips and tricks:

  1. The given ingredients are for one person, and if available, every portion should be baked in small or medium-sized trays, and served to each diner directly.
  2. This recipe is quite similar to the Greek salad, since it practically has the same ingredients (except for the cucumber). But while salad might be more related to summer, this baked dish is specially comforting in winter.
  3. As an even easier alternative, it’s also possible to bake only the feta cheese, marinating it with extra virgin olive oil, honey and oregano or thyme.
  4. If you prefer, you can give it a spicy touch with a little cayenne.
  5. This is really a very simple recipe that does not require any special skills or knowledge, and it’s impossible to fail. Just don’t forget the food in the oven, and all will be fine!
