How to make almond milk at home easily

Plant-based milks are in fashion given the boom of vegan diets, but taking advantage of that popularity, they are sold at exaggerated prices. In the case of commercial almond milk, the actual content of the main ingredient is very low and its taste is unmatched compared to the one we can very easily prepare at home.

Ingredients:

1 cup of almonds

4 cups of water

a pinch of salt

The preparation is very simple and consists of 3 basic steps:

  1. Let the almonds soak for at least 8 hours in the fridge.
  2. Discard the water and blend the almonds with 4 cups of water and a pinch of salt until they have completely dissolved.
  3. Strain the solid remains through a kitchen gauze, filter or similar, and keep in the fridge.

Tips and tricks:

  1. The same method is used to make other nut milks such as hazelnuts, sesame, cashews, etc.
  2. The almond remains can be used in other recipes, smoothies, müslis, etc.
  3. Use almonds which are not roasted. It is indistinct, however, if they are peeled or not.
  4. Remember to discard the water in which the almonds have been soaked.
  5. This milk keeps in the fridge without problems for up to 3 days. After that period, it begins to deteriorate and this can be easily verified, since both its flavor and texture will change significantly.

How to use almond milk:

This milk is delicious to be drunk very cold, but it is also perfect to prepare a hot chocolate. It also serves to replace regular milk in coffee, and can be used in all kinds of vegan recipes, flan, muffins, cakes or biscuits, etc.
